  • Exploring the Philosophy and Practices of Open Education 12:50 - 2:20 p.m.

In open education, the goal is to increase access to education by changing the way we think about knowledge. Instead of bundling up knowledge in an expensive textbook or putting it behind a paywall, open education sees knowledge as a public good that should be freely available to everyone to learn from, build on, and customize for their own purposes. In this session, we will explore open education as a philosophy, look at the frameworks and structures that make it possible, and then dig into examples and opportunities to put open education into practice.

This session will be facilitated by Josie Gray.

  • Break 2:20 - 2:40 p.m.

Please note that refreshments will not be provided.

  • Navigating the BCcampus Open Collections 2:40 - 4:10 p.m.

Open is a core part of BCcampus' work and practices. Much of the work we do results in open educational resources (OER) that are freely accessible for others to utilize, distribute, and modify. In this session, discover the technical and practical aspects involved in adopting an OER from BCcampus. We will delve into various collections, including open textbooks, courses, digital literacy OER, FLO courses, UDL Challenge, and beyond.

This session will be facilitated by Josie Gray, Britt Dzioba, and Selina McGinnis.

  • Social Event 4:30 - 6:30 p.m.
